Abstract
1,173,510. Machines for washing beer kegs &c. BURNETT & ROLFE Ltd. 9 Aug., 1968 [18 Aug., 1967], No. 38125/67. Heading B8T. A machine for automatically washing beer kegs includes a detector 21 disposed within an outlet passage 18 of a head 3 connected to the keg, so that after the supply of washing liquid and subsequent supply of steam, the detector causes a control device to initiate a further operation of the machine only when the detector detects the absence of washing liquid at any temperature in the outlet passage. On applying the head 3 to the neck 2 of an inverted keg, supply passage 17 communicates with the interior of spear 4, and the inside of the keg 1 communicates with outlet passage 18 via perforations 15. After washing liquid is passed into the keg via passage 17 it is forced through the outlet passage 18 by steam that is also admitted via passage 17. When probes 22, 23 of detector 21 detect a drop in the electrical conductivity due to the removal of all the liquid from the keg and passage 18, a signal is transmitted to a control device (not shown) to initiate a further operation of the machine. An alternative form of detector can be used responsive to the dielectric properties of the fluid. Reference is made to Specification 1,151,245.
