Abstract

1,173,434. Resilient wheels. DAVID BROWN GEAR INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Jan., 1968 [11 Oct, 1966], No. 45289/66. Heading F2U. The rim 13 of a gear-wheel is mounted on its hub 10 by means of bolts 15 passing through bores 17, 18 and 20 in flanges, (or series of lugs), 11, 12 of the hub and a flange or series of lugs 14 on the rim, a rubber bushing 19 being inserted in bore 20, and the bores 17 and 18 being equal to or respectively greater than and less than the bore 20 so that each bolt 15 and its bushing 19 may be individually removed to replace worn bushings. Again, two flanges (or series of lugs) may be formed on the rim, and only one on the hub. The bolts are retained in position by collars 16 in bores 17 and 18, internal and external circlips 22, 21 being provided at both ends of the bolts adjacent the collars 16. On removing one internal circlip 22, the bolt 15, collars 16, and bushing 19 may be withdrawn from the bores from that end. A tool (24), Fig. 2 (not shown), is described for removing the bolt assemblies, and includes two screws (26) engaging dimples 23 on the rim 13 when the tool is clamped thereto. The tool also includes an hydraulically or manually operated plunger including a screw threaded end adapted to engage either a screw threaded bore (31) in the bolt 15 to withdraw the bolts, or a similar bore in a thrust member (30) adapted to abut one of the collars 16 to push the replaced bushing and bolt back into their bores. The collar 16 at one end of the bolt may be formed integral therewith, or the bolt 15 and bushing 19 may be formed as a single unit obviating the need of circlips 21. A threaded bore (31) may be provided at both ends of the bolts 15 to facilitate their removal from either side of the gear-wheel when bores 17, 18 and 20 are equal.
