Abstract

1,173,238. Tufting-machines. SINGER-COBBLE Ltd. 4 July, 1968 [5 July; 1967], No. 30923/67. Heading D1G. A tufting machine comprises two end cabinets 11, 12 and two cross beams 13, 15 extending therebetween, with a vertically extending slot between the cross beams, a needle stroke mechanism in one cross beam for horizontally reciprocating a plurality of tufting needles and a looper mechanism on the second cross beam -with drive means therefore in the end cabinets. The needles are reciprocated from an oscillating shaft 32 by drive levers 35 acting through links 36. The loopers, mounted on looper shaft 47 are reciprocated by a rack and pinion as is a presser foot 58. A yarn jerker mechanism comprises guides 44a, 44c on the needle bar and a fixed guide 44b on the cross beam. Pin rollers 22 pull the backing fabric vertically through the slot.
