Abstract

1,173,056. Spray producers. H. G. FISHER & CO. 25. Aug., 1967 [19 Sept., 1966], No. 39129/67. Headings B2F and B2L. Electrostatic coating systems comprise a mechanically atomising spray gun 71 mounting means supporting said gun at a distance of 20 to 25 cm from the work 41 to be coated and insulating the gun from earth potential, a container 90 for electrically conductive fluid material, further mounting 91 insulating the container from earth potential, a conduit 97 connecting the container and spray gun, pressure means operatively connected to the container, conduit and spray gun forcing coating material from the container through the conduit to the spray gun and high voltage power supply means connected between the spray gun and work to be coated. The spray gun may comprise a forward end having coating material and compressed air passages and outlets, and an electrically conducting element connected to power supply means adjacent to the material outlet and extending forwardly thereof but offset laterally to avoid contact with spray material ejected from the outlet. As shown, four guns 71, 72, 73, 74, are mounted on an insulating rod 70 mounted on a carriage 58 reciprocated along vertical rods 53, 54 by means of a chain 57 operatively connected to an analog control 60. Panels 41, 42 to be coated are mated by hangers 43, 44 to the conveyor 40. Atomising air supplied to each gun by a conduit 106 is heated by electrical means 100, e.g. variably in response to variations in humidity of the surrounding air. Each gun is triggered by compressed air in a conduit 112 controlled by a solenoid valve 110.
