Abstract

1,173,013. Suction cleaners. MAUZ & PFEIFFER G.m.b.H. & CO. K.G. 17 Feb., 1967 [18 Feb., 1966], No. 7675/67. Heading A4F. In a suction cleaner comprising a casing 5 within which an electric motor (not shown) drives a carpet beater assembly 8 and a fan 7 for drawing in air through a suction opening 16 past the beater assembly 8 and through a dirt receptacle 15 and a suction duct 17, the casing 5 has a door 24 giving access to the beater assembly 8 and to the dirt receptacle 15, which is of rigid bore-like construction and removable through the door opening, and a space 32 between the receptacle wall 29 and the door 24 is normally closed by a shutter 35 openable for passage of the suction air stream. The rear wall of the receptacle 15 is constituted by a filter 34. The door 24 has an opening 36 normally closed by a pivoted shutter 37 but adapted to receive a coupling 39 for a flexible hose carrying a hand tool for use when the cleaner is stationary. The coupling 39 when inserted in the opening 36 engages a bar 40 to close the shutter 35 to prevent admission of air to the dirt receptacle via the suction opening 16. Alternative mechanisms are described for preventing such air admission and also for raising the beater assembly 8 slightly from the floor when the coupling 39 is inserted into the opening 36.
