A door handle assembly comprises a squaresection bar 23 having a substantial portion 25 of its length screw-threaded on its corners and an unthreaded portion 26 fast in a handle 11, a square tube 22 slidably mounted on the screwthreaded portion 25 of the bar and engaging a square bore 24 in a handle 10, and a screw 18 engaging the handle 10 and threaded into the bar 23 so as to clamp the tube 22 between the handle 10 and a knurled nut 28 which is adjustably threaded on the bar 23 so as to determine the effective length of the assembly to suit a door stile 31. The tube 22 is non-rotatable but slidable with respect to a cam 21 of a spring bolt-operating latch. A boss 20 of the handle 10 is rectangular and engages a rectangular slot in the cam 21. As shown, the handles 10, 11 are of aluminium alloy and the bar 23 is of harder material such as steel. The portion 26 of the bar 23 is of reduced cylindrical section and is joined to the remainder of the bar by a conical section 27. The portion 26 is forced into a circular hole of the handle 11 such that the softer material of the boss 20a thereof is displaced and cold formed on to the bar 23. Alternatively, the bar may be cast in situ, forced or swaged into the handle 11, or a square or round ended bar 23 may be caulked, staked or cross-pinned into the handle 11.
