Abstract

1,172,862. Generators having permanent magnet rotors. ROTAX Ltd. 3 April, 1967 [21 Jan., 1966], No. 2819/66. Heading H2A. A dynamo-electric generator comprises a rotor having mounted upon a rotary shaft 12 an annular ferrous yoke 10 against a flat end face of which are located the wider ends of a plurality of cylindrical tapered magnets 15 having their polar axes substantially parallel with the rotor axis and being so polarized, that adjacent free poles are of opposite polarity and retained by extending through respective complementary apertures in an annulus 16 secured to the yoke, and a stator having a plurality of output windings 19 in radial slots in an annular core end face presented to the magnet free poles. As shown, the core 18a is a spirally wound ferrous ribbon retained in a non-magnetic housing 20 by an epoxy resin filler, the rotor/stator air gap is adjusted by shims 14 and, with rotor speeds of 60,000 R.P.M. envisaged, a titanium antibursting hoop 18 bounds the yoke 10 and annulus 16; the latter may also be of titanium.
