Abstract

1,266,312. D.C. generators. THOMSON C.S.F. 25 March, 1970 [28 March, 1969], No. 14589/70. Heading H2A. A brushless generator, e.g. tachogenerator, for producing a direct voltage comprises an alternative for producing a plurality of phase shifted alternating voltages (E 1 ... E 6 ) (Fig. 3) of amplitudes which are both substantially equal and constant for a part of each alternation and, coupled to the alternator rotor 5, magnetic field producing means e.g. a permanent bar magnet 20, which on rotation causes sequential operation of an array of magnetically operated contact switches 9 ... 14 fixed with respect to the alternator stator 6 and which connect associated alternating voltages to the generator D.C. output terminals 17, 18. The stator may have a bromine ring winding or, as shown, six windings b 1 ... b 6 arranged as oppositely wound or connected pairs in slots 27 ... 32 of laminations, and the rotor comprises a radially magnetized magnet terminated by polepieces 23, 24. The switches 9...14 are sealed-tube reed contact units in a plastics sleeve 15 clamped to a partition wall 7 by screwed ring 8.
