Abstract

1,172,718. Protective arrangements. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 6 June, 1967 [10 June, 1966], No. 25959/67. Headings H2H and H2K. [Also in Divisions H1 and H3] A load R1 having transistors requiring protection has in series a non-linear PTC element 13 comprising a pair of flat metal plate electrodes 15, 17 of comparatively large area and small distance apart spaced by a wafer of semiconductor material which sharply and regeneratively increases in resistance above a determined current flow. A relay coil W1 connected either in series or in parallel with element 13 opens contacts K1, K2, on a sustained overload. The semi-conductor material may comprise barium titanate doped with a rare earth or a carbon black filled plastic material.
