June 19, 1916, [Convention date ] Button-hole sewing-machines; Loop-stitching.- Relates to the looper mechanism of overedge sewing-machines, such as button-hole sewing- machines in which the work-clamp and sewing mechanism are relatively moved to form overedge stitches about the button-hole. The invention is described as applied to a sewing-machine comprising needle-vibrating mechanism as described in Specification 117,269, and work-clamp-operating mechanism of the usual kind. The looper mechanism comprises a threaded looper 86, Fig. 2, and an unthreaded looper 88 carried by arms 90 of a carriage 92 pivoted on the shaft 96 across the top of the rotary turret 82. The carriage is rocked by an arm 102 of a sleeve 100 which is ball jointed to an actuating lever 104, Fig. 1. Co-operating with the loopers and adapted to overlie them are two spreading fingers 114 and 116, which are carried by a frame pivoted at right-angles to the shaft 96. The frame is rocked by an arm 124 of a hollow rod 126 which passes through the sleeve 100 and is ball-jointed to an actuating lever 128 The levers 104, 128 are independently actuated by a rod 106 and three-cornered cam on the shaft 16 and by the rod 132 and eccentric on the shaft 10. The shaft 16 drives the shaft 10 through bevel-gearing at twice the speed so that the spreading fingers are actuated twice in each reciprncation of the loopers. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also contains a reference to Specification 107,384, which does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
