Abstract

1,172,633. Padlocks. A. K. NHLOLA. 12 June, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 27878/68. Heading E2A. A padlock comprises a lock case 1, a lock cylinder 2 inside the lock case which cylinder can be rotated into and out of a locking position with the aid of a key, and a lock shackle 4 the limbs 5, 8 of which are located adjacent two sides of the cylinder and a locking ball 6 between one limb (5 as shown) and the cylinder and which ball is pushed into a first notch 7 in the said limb when the cylinder is turned into its locking position, wherein a locking element 3 passes through the cylinder at the same height in the lock case as the locking ball and the end portion of the locking element adjacent, the ball protruding from the cylinder so that when the cylinder is turned into its locking position the locking element pushes the ball into the first notch and the opposite end of the locking element rests against a bridge 10 of material between the cylinder and the opposite limb of 'the lock shackle, the said opposite limb having a notch 11 into which the bridge of material is pushed by the locking element if an attempt is made to release the shackle by pressure exerted between the shackle and the lock case. As described such pressure cams the ball out of its notch 7 and the ball urging the element against the bridge of material to push it into the notch 11. The ball as shown is in engagement with the notch in the limb 5 but in a modification it can be in engagement with the notch 11 in the limb 8 in which case the bridge of material is pushed into the notch 7.
