Abstract

1,172,628. Rolling threads. ROTARY PROFILE ANSTALT. 30 Jan., 1967 [1 Feb., 1966], No. 4399/67. Heading B3M. A rolling head consists of a cylindrical body provided with an annular groove partly accommodating a series of threading or profiling rollers, axles extending from opposite ends of each roller bearing on lands formed on each side of the groove. When the exterior of a workpiece 10, Fig. J , is to be threaded or profiled, the rolling body 12 is annular, and the groove 14 is formed internally of the body. For internal rolling, Fig. 3, the body 12 is grooved circumferentially at 14. The axles of each roller can be of conical form, Fig. 9, the lands which support the roller being of similar shape and movable axially relative to each other to adjust the roller radially. From the working position shown, movement of a sleeve 54 to the right permits radial movement of spring-loaded pins 40 outwardly thus permitting relative movement between the parts 12 and 36 which constitute the lands. Springs 38 urge these parts away from each other, resulting in release of the rollers (which are spring-loaded outwardly in a supporting cage) from the workpiece 10. The rollers may be used for burnishing, knurling or sizing of workpieces.
