Abstract

1,172,240. Hydraulic brakes. AUTOBRZDY JABLONEC, NARODNI PODNIK. 30 Dec., 1966 [31 Dec., 1965], No. 58362/66. Heading F2F. In a tandem master cylinder for hydraulic brake systems, two pressure chambers 14, 15 are separated from each other by a secondary floating piston 13, each pressure chamber being connected through an inlet 10, 2 with a brake fluid reservoir through the intermediary of a valve 28, 33 respectively, the pressure chambers 14, 15 being connected to an outlet 38, 36, respectively, with separate lines leading to the brake cylinders the axially-movable opposed valves 28, 33 coupled with the secondary floating piston 13 being adapted to fit on to seats 37, 3 respectively formed around the inlet openings. In operation, when the primary piston 4 is actuated the valve 28 closes off communication between the inlet 10 and the first pressure chamber 14 and fluid under pressure is fed to the outlet 38 leading to one set of brake cylinders. Continued movement of the piston 14 urges the secondary floating piston to the right, as shown in the figure, to compress a spring 24 and allow the valve 33 to close the connection between the reservoir inlet 2 and the pressure chamber 15. Each valve 28 and 33 is provided with a stem 26, 31 respectively which moves telescopically in a bore 19 in the secondary floating piston 13.
