Abstract

1,171,721. Lever lids. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. 26 March, 1968, No. 14562/68. Heading B8D. A circular sheet metal container lid comprises a dished plug portion the sides of which are formed by an annular inner wall 1 arranged to fit frictionally in the mouth ring of a container, an outer wall 4 concentric with, substantially parallel to, of greater diameter than, and connected with the inner wall 1 by an inwardly directed bead 5 the inner diameter 6 of which is less than the diameter of the inner wall 1, the outer wall 4 having a diameter such that the junction 7 thereof with said bead can engage the top of said mouth ring when the inner wall 1 is fully inserted in the mouth ring. The lid has a lateral peripheral flange 8 and is so dimensioned that a non- wedging stable stack of lids can be formed by locating the plug portion of one lid in the outer wall of another lid, Fig. 3 (not shown). The lid may be of, e.g. tinplate or aluminium.
