Abstract
1,171,688. Detecting dust in air. TSENTRALNAYA LABORATORIA AVTOMATIKI. April 21, 1967 No. 18376/67. Heading G1N. In apparatus for measuring the weight concentration of dust in air, a centrifugal separator 2 directs the air into three conduits 3, 4, 5 such that sub-micron dust particles enter all the conduits, and of the other dust particles, the lighter ones enter conduit 4 and the heavier ones conduit 3, and each conduit has a transducer 6, 7 or 8 comprising corona-forming electrodes 14, 15; 16, 17; or 18, 19 and a signal electrode 20, 21, or 22, the transducers being so connected that the output of transducer 8 is in opposition to the output of the other transducers, the outputs being in series with a capacitive load 27. The dimensions of the electrodes 20, 21, 22 are chosen so that the length of electrode 22 equals the sum of the lengths of electrodes 20 and 21 and the lengths of electrodes 20, 21 are proportional to the mean weights of the particles of the other dust flowing through the respective transducers. Alternatively, the electrodes may be of equal length and output amplifiers having appropriate gains may be used. Earthed electrodes 28, 29, 30 and metal screens 31 prevent interference. Conduit 3 may be omitted.
