Abstract

1,171,608. Electron beam apparatus. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 2 Nov., 1966 [3 Nov., 1965], No. 49211/66. Heading H1D. [Also in Division G3] A cathode-ray tube, e.g. for video recording or electron beam apparatus, e.g. for welding milling or evaporating material, comprises a pair of deflecting plates 46, 48 or an electromagnetic deflection yoke and, located outside, but adjacent the beam path and between the gun and a scanning deflection system 44, a Faraday cage 50 for sampling the level of beam current and adjusting the D.C. operating level of the gun cathode to maintain the beam current at a desired level, by means of a servo control circuit. The beam may be continuous or pulsed.
