[Also in Division C3] Phosphite esters of cyclic structure may be obtained by reaction of polyhydroxy organic compounds with phosphorus trichloride or by interesterification with triphenyl phosphite. Examples describe the preparation of ophenylene chlorophosphite from phosphorus trichloride and catechol, and the esterification thereof with (1) 2,6-di-t.-butyl-4-methylphenol and (2) 3-methyl-6-t-butylphenol; and the preparation of 1 - hydroxy - 2,2,2 - trimethylolethane phosphite from pentaerythritol and triphenyl phosphite in the presence of phenol and sodium hydride.
