The dimer and trimer of an acrylic acid ester of formulµ wherein R is C 1-13 alkyl or oxoalkyl are prepared by polymerization of the acrylic acid ester in the liquid phase using tri-(hexamethylimino)-phosphorous triamide as catalyst. Tri - (hexamethylimino)phosphorous triamide is prepared by reaction of hexamethyleneimine with phosphorous trichloride or tribromide under nitrogen.
