Abstract
1,171,009. Flexible tube pumps. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. Dec. 19, 1967 [March 3, 1967], No.57665/67. Heading F1F. A flexible tube pump comprises a base-plate 12, Fig. 1, formed with a recess having a cylindrical surface 14 against which is pressed an elastically deformable tube 18 whose ends pass through passages 22 in the base-plate. A concentric rotatable shaft 24 carries on arms 28 a plurality of equally spaced primary rollers 26 and on slotted arms 38 midway between the arms 28 a plurality of secondary rollers 36. The rollers 26 on rotation of the shaft 24 deform the tube to fully close the passage 20 therethrough. The rollers 36 may be adjusted to adjust the volume between adjacent rollers 26 to adjust pump output. In a practical embodiment, spindles 30, Fig. 3, fixed to a disc 52 carry primary rollers 26 and recesses 58 in the disc 52 having slots 40 co-operate with spindles 44 on which the secondary rollers 36 are mounted. The spindles 44 include supports 64 and projecting ends 68 which engage in cam slots 74 in a plate 70 fixed to or forming part of a control member 69 mounted on the end of the shaft 24. A snap-washer 87 enables the shaft 24 and control member 69 to rotate as a unit. The control member can however be rotated a limited amount with respect to the shaft to move the secondary rollers towards or away from the axis of the shaft 24 to adjust pump output. Calibrations 94, 96 on the control member 69 cooperate with a slot 90 on an indicator member 88 which is a press fit in a bore 93 on the end of the shaft 24. Instead of a cylindrical recess in the base-plate, an arm 12, Fig. 2, having a serrated part cylindrical surface 14 may be pivoted at 50 to a plate 48 having a slot 100 through which passes a spring-loaded pin 98 carried by the arm 12. A lever 105 is operable to move the arm 12 out of engagement with the tube 18 to stop pumping action without stopping the motor driving the shaft 24. The serrations on the surface 14 minimize tube wear.
