Abstract

1,170,831. Pyrrolidinols; thiopyrollidinols. A. H. ROBINS CO. Inc. 1 Feb., 1967, No. 4822/67. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> each represent H or C 1 -C 6 alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is aralkyl, substituted aralkyl or thenyl, R<SP>5</SP> is H, alkanoyl or aroyl, X- is an anion, Y is O or S and the known compound 1-benzyl-3-pyrrolidinol acetate methobromide are prepared by the following reaction schemes where if R<SP>5</SP> is H the acylation step is omitted. where if R<SP>5</SP> is H the acylation step is omitted. The intermediate product then being reacted with a quaternizing agent R<SP>2</SP>X; or the intermediate product then being reacted with R<SP>2</SP>X or in the above equation R<SP>2</SP>NH 2 may replace R<SP>1</SP>NH 2 in which case R<SP>1</SP>X is used instead of R<SP>2</SP>X. A pharmaceutical composition for controlling arrythmia comprises as active ingredient a compound of the first general formula above and a carrier or excipient.
