[Also in Division B6] A portable kit for artists comprises a base-plate 10 for supporting a paint-box 45, a palette plate 12 pivoted at 11 to the plate 10 so that it can underlie the plate 10 or be moved to a position for use, an easel plate 18 hinged to the base plate 10, and extension members 27, 28 hinged to the easel plate 18 for supporting large sheets. The various parts can be folded back into a flat condition. An auxiliary pivoted easel plate 23 can be provided having hinged extensions 37, 38, 43; further parts 31, 32 etc. can be hinged to the extensions 27, 28 etc. for supporting larger sheets A which can be secured by spring clips 33. The hinge connecting the plates 10, 18 has stops thereon so that the plate 10 horizontal, the plate 18 inclines at an angle of 35 degrees to the horizontal. The plates 10, 12 are of steel with a porcelain coating. A paint-box 45 has a magnet attached to its base whereby the box can be held in position on the base-plate 10. Clips 50 on the paint box hold the paint box lid 48 in closed position with a rubber sealing gasket on the lid engaging the upper edges of partitions in the box so as to seal the compartments. A magnet is provided on the lid 48 so that the lid may be positioned on the plate 10 in an inverted position to serve as an additional palette after removal of the gasket. The box paint 45 has at one or both ends means whereby a water container 54 may be detachably connected to a box end. The container 54 is made of translucent material with an opaque strip 57 around its upper end. By comparing the water surface with the strip 57, the artist can ascertain whether or not the plate 10 is being held horizontally and thus whether the easel plate 18 is at the desired angle of 35 degrees to the horizontal. Small containers for holding materials such as oil, turpentine, may form part of the kit, each container having a magnet secured to its base for mounting it on the base plate 10. A clip for holding a cleaning cloth may be provided on the easel plate 18. The kit may be held by grasping the plate 18 with one hand leaving the other hand free for painting. If however, the plate 10 is resting on a table, the easel may be held securely by utilising a box 58, 59 Fig. 5, provided for holding the kit. Lugs 62 on the box part 58 can be engaged with slots in the plate 18, and a lug 63 on the box part 59 can be engaged with a hole in the extension 43.
