Abstract
1,170,360. Segregation of ores. ANGLO AMERICAN CORP. OF SOUTH AFRICA Ltd. Sept.25, 1967 [Sept.28, 1966], No.43447/67. Heading C7D. A segregation process for the treatment of ores in which the ores are heated in a fluidized bed and then flow as a plug through the segregation chamber where the segregating reagents are added, is improved by causing the level of solids in the chamber to oscillate between predetermined levels. The level is varied by controlling the discharge from the bottom of the chamber. The discharge may be fed to a quench tank and the segregated metal recovered (e.g. by flotation). It is stated that a 70-80% conversion of copper minerals to copper can be achieved.
