Abstract

1,170,236. Spray-producers. H. H. ROBERTSON CO. 22 Nov., 1966 [25 Nov., 1965], No. 50091/65. Heading B2F. An atomizer for use in suppressing coal dust and controlling humidity comprises a fan 12, a hollow assembly 16 mounted so as to rotate with the fan and provided with a plurality of liquid outlet slits or holes 27, and a liquid supply pipe 32 provided with a valve (31) Fig. 1 (not shown) and adapted to feed the liquid in a controlled manner to a pipe 42, mounted concentrically with respect to the assembly 16, via a boss 35. The liquid supplied by the pipe 42 is initially atomized by a cup 19 secured to the rear 17 of the assembly 16 and is subsequently discharged in to the air stream produced by the fan through the slits 27. A flange 25 secured to the cup 19 by bayonet joints traps foreign matter in the liquid. A dust cap 36 and vanes 24 on a cover plate 23 prevent foreign matter entering the assembly. Alternatively a spring-loaded carbon faced seal may be attached to the cover plate 23. The air flow carrying droplets each having a dust particle as its nucleus is passed through a baffled screen or spray eliminator (c), Fig. 1 (not shown) in ducting (B), the resultant sludge being removed by a pump (D).
