Abstract
1,169,414. Invalid beds; commodes. E. M. HOWARD. 15 May, 1968 [18 May, 1967; 3 June, 1967], Nos. 23125/67 and 25719/67. Headings A4J and A4N. A bed or chair for incontinent patients comprises a base 3 having a rectangular aperture 4 and slides 5 for slidably receiving a moulded plastics container (6). The slides and container are concealed by hinged or flexible flaps 8. A foam rubber mattress 9 is formed in sections and provides an aperture 10 registering with the aperture 4. Adaptor rings may be fitted into the aperture 10 to reduce its size, or it may be closed by a further section of the mattress. The chair (Fig. 3) has an upholstered back and an upholstered seat (12) with a through aperture (13). The chair (Fig. 5) has a seat which is wider than the back and the through aperture (13) is disposed in a side portion (12b) of the seat. The chairs have castors. A ray lamp and/or a fan may be placed below the aperture.
