Abstract
1,169,030. Watercraft with rotary floating bodies. M. JUSTINIEN. 22 Nov., 1966 [30 Nov., 1965; 2 Nov., 1966], No. 52324/66. Headings B7A and B7V. A rotary helical floating body 1 has its periphery provided with projections (of pitch P) forming broad, preferably hollow, flanges 1a extending helically round a portion L<SP>1</SP> of the surface of the body and deformed into spiral shape at the ends 1d, the flanges being of constant breadth or thickness 1b throughout, the sum of this said breadths or thicknesses along the portion L<SP>1</SP> forming 45% to 55% of the overall length L of the body. The gap between adjacent flanges is a groove 1c of triangular shape. Fig. 7 shows floating bodies 1 attached to a craft E provided with platforms 3 above the bodies, the platforms affording protection against water thrown by the bodies. The platforms may have a small angle of incidence in the longitudinal direction of the craft, resulting in reduced draught at full speed. Two or more bodies may be mounted in axial alignment, and the bodies may provide propulsion by being rotated manually or by mechanical means or when rotating freely in the case of a sailing craft, or craft with outboard motors or in tow. The body may be of metal, may be solid, may be of plastics, or comprise an inflatable casing.
