1,168,596. Wire-mesh-reinforced laminates. AVI ALPENLANDISCHE VEREDELUNGSINDUSTRIE G.m.b.H. 20 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 29511/68. Heading B5N. A wire-mesh-reinforced sheet material comprises a sheet 1 of flexible material interposed between transverse wires 2 and longitudinal wires 3 of crossed mesh, which wires are welded at their crossing points 4 through local perforations in the flexible material; the longitudinal wires 3 comprise individual parallel wires and the transverse wires 2 are formed by continuous wire looped as shown, the loops projecting beyond the outermost longitudinal wires, and optionally beyond the edges of the flexible sheet. The sheet 1 may comprise paper, polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, and the mesh may be of steel and may be resilient or deformable. The material may be made by feeding an imperforate strip of flexible material into a multi-point mesh welding machine wherein provision is made for application of the transverse wires as a looped continuous wire. The sheet is perforated as the longitudinal and transverse wires are welded together. The perforations, although partly sealed by the metal weld, may be completely sealed by plastics cement or a strip of plastics material.
