Abstract
116,833. Wheeler, O. E. Oct. 31, 1917. Telescopes; field glasses.-In instruments having an optical system of low power, and a second system also of low power, but capable of being moved into line with the first system to produce a combination of higher power, the two systems are so carried that they may be brought into alinement the one in continuation of the other. The second system may constitute a Galilean telescope which may be screwed on to the front of one tube of a field glass. A second Galilean telescope may be screwed to the other tube of the field glass, or one tube may be permanently fitted with a Galilean telescope. As shown in Fig. 4, the Galilean telescope B may be fitted to a monocular field glass A, and may be mounted on a pivot C so that it may be turned into or out of alinement therewith. The pivoted mounting may also be used in connexion with binocular field glasses, and two Galilean telescopes, either mounted on one carrier or separately mounted, may be provided.
