Abstract
1,168,052. Hydrodealkylation. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 5 July, 1968, No. 32240/68. Heading C5E. A process for the dealkylation of alkylaromatics comprises (1) converting one or more alkylaromatics with a H 2 -containing gas into one or more aromatics and one or more alkanes at elevated temperature and pressure in a first reaction zone; (2) converting one or more alkanes with steam into a H 2 -containing gas at elevator termperature and pressure in a second reaction zone, and (3) exchanging heat between the first and second reaction zones. The alkanes produced in (1) may be converted in (2), and the H 2 -containing gas produced in (2) may be used in (1). The feedstock for the first reaction zone may be toluene, xylenes, ethylbenzene, mono-, di- and trimethylnaphthalenes or mixtures thereof. Reaction (1) may be carried out at 600-800‹ C. and 35-45 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> pressure. Reaction (2) may be carried out at 600-800‹ C. and 30-45 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> pressure in the presence of a nickel or rhenium containing catalyst supported on a carrier and optionally containing 0À1-10% by wt. alkali metal. The example describes the production of benzene from toluene. CO and steam contained in the effluent of reaction (1) or (2) may be converted to CO 2 and H 2 at 300-450‹ C. using a iron oxide-chromium oxide catalyst.
