Abstract

1,167,991. Creaseproofing composition curing catalysts. COMMERCIAL SOLVENTS CORP. 9 June, 1967 [2 July, 1966], No. 26725/67. Heading C3R. [Also in Division D1] A composition suitable for use in the treatment of cellulosic fabrics comprises a compatible, non-volatile, acid curable, creaseproofing agent for cellulosic fabrics and as catalyst an acid salt of a hydroxyamine having the formula in which R is an alkyl radical containing 1-8 carbon atoms or a hydroxymethyl radical and R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl radical containing 1-3 carbon atoms or a hydroxyethyl radical. The treating composition which is preferably aqueous may contain 1-20% by weight of the creaseproofing agent and 5-25% by weight of the catalyst based on the creaseproofing agent and may also contain softening agents, oil-repellents, lubricants, moth-proofing agents, flame proofing agents, brighteners, shrinkproofing agents and mildew-proofing agents. Suitable creaseproofing agents are those having the formula in which R is an alkyl radical or hydrogen, X is and Y is -CH 2 -CH 2 -, -CH 2 -CH 2 -CH 2 -, -CH 2 OCH 2 - or e.g. dimethylol ethylene urea, dimethylol-1,3- propylene urea and bis methoxy methyl uron; dimethylol urea, 1,3-bis-(hydroxymethyl)-tetrahydro - 5 - ethyl - 2 - triazone, 1,3-bis-(hydroxymethyl) - tetrahydro - 5 - propyl - 2 - triazone, 1,3 - bis - (hydroxymethyl) - tetrahydro - 2 - pyrimidinone, 1,3 - bis - (hydroxymethyl) - tetrahydro - 5 - methyl - 2 - pyrimidinone, 1,3 - bis - (hydroxymethyl) - tetrahydro - 5 - hydroxy - 2 - pyrimidinone, compounds having the formula in which R is hydrogen or an alkyl radical, R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, methyl or benzyl and X is tetramethylol acetylene diurea, tetramethoxymethyl dimethyl acetylene diurea, compounds having the formula in which R is hydrogen or an alkyl, -CH 2 OH or -CH 2 OR<SP>2</SP> radical, R<SP>1</SP> is a -CH 2 OH or -CH 2 OR<SP>2</SP> radical and R<SP>2</SP> is an alkyl radical, e.g. tris (methoxymethyl)-melamine or hexamethoxymethyl melamine and compounds having the formula in which n is an integer of 1-3 and X is a radical of the formula The catalyst may be a hydrochloric, nitric, sulphuric or phosphoric acid salt of the hydroxyamine.
