Abstract

1,167,614. Advancing mine roof support control circuits. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. 13 Feb., 1967 [17. Feb., 1966: 16 April, 1966], No. 6681/67. Heading E1 P [Also in Division G3] A pit prop is provided with a control system operable to adjust the angular position thereof in relation to the vertical, the system comprising means for sensing the inclination of the prop from a predetermined angular setting in relation to the vertical to provide signals to control means for causing operation of at least one ram for adjusting the angular position. The angular position of the prop may be adjusted in a single plane by a single ram or in two perpendicular planes by two separately controlled rams. The ram or rams may act at the top or bottom of the prop. As shown, the sensing means is in the form of a pendulum 136, Fig. 3 (not shown) controlling the opening and closing of two valve ports 134, 135, but in alternative embodiments the sensing means is in the form of electrical contacts which co-operate with the prop itself or a pendulum thereon to provide the control signals. Assuming the port 134 is closed by the pendulum 136 due to an undesirable tilting of the prop, compressed air from a line 130 enters the other port 135 by way of a reducing valve 131 and a branch conduit 102. Air entering the port 135 flows to a line 105 and causes opening of a diaphragm operated valve 106 which thus directs air from a line 130b to cause a valve 108 to open. The opening of the valve 108 supplies hydraulic fluid through lines 150, 153 to the chamber 107b of a ram 121 and causes the piston rod 123 thereof to move the prop to its correct angular position. Hydraulic fluid in the other ram chamber 107a flows to a reservair 151 through a second valve 108. Tilting of the prop in the opposite direction opens port 134 to effect reverse operation of the ram.
