1,167,517. Polymer compositions. HITACHI SEISAKUSHO K.K. 16 Nov., 1966 [17 Nov., 1965; 19 Sept., 1966; 24 Oct., 1966], No. 34639/68. Divided out of 1,167,516. Headings C3B, C3P and C3R. Hot melt adhesive compositions comprise 90 to 50 parts by weight of an ionomer resin, 5 to 40 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic resins selected from chlorinated polyolefins, polyamides, e.g. nylons 6, 6.6, 6.10, 6.11 and 6.12, polyesters, e.g. derived from terephthalic and/or isophthalic acids and ethylene and/or neopentyl glycols, phenoxy resins, polyvinyl butyrals, polyvinyl formals and vinyl copolymers, with 5 to 40 parts by weight of one or more agents to modify the softening point or viscosity. Specified agents are terpene and petroleum resins, low molecular weight polyolefins and polystyrenes, and waxes. The compositions may be used for coating and bonding polymeric materials, metals, porcelain, ceramics and glass. Examples describe hot melt adhesives comprising ionomer resins and (2-4) ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers; and comprising ionomer resins, low molecular weight polyethylenes and (7-10 and 21) ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymers, (11-14) ethylene/ ethyl acrylate copolymers, (15-17 and 22) polyester resins derived from ethylene and neopentyl glycols and terephthalic and isophthalic acids, (18-20 and 23) chlorinated polyethylene, (24) a phenoxy resin and (25) nylon 6.10.
