1,167,108. Wind vanes. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Feb. 1, 1968 [Feb. 16, 1967], No. 5248/68. Heading G1R. [Also in Division GA] Apparatus for determining the variation with time of the orientation of a rotating member 24 such as a wind vane comprises thirty six photosensitive cells 16a, 16b, 16c, &c., a light source 12, a mirror 18, a pulse generator 30 and thirty six pulse counters 40a, 40b, 40c, &c. each being associated with a respective one of the cells for recording the total number of pulses transmitted by each cell. The mirror 18 is rotated to a position corresponding to that of the wind vane by a Selsyn emitter 22 and receiver 25. The illumination of a photo-sensitive cell by the light beam 14 reduces its resistance so that the pulses from the constant frequency 30 are transmitted to the respective counter, the other counters remaining inoperative due to the high resistance of the non illuminated photo-resistive cells. The total number of pulses recorded by each counter is therefore a measure of the time during which the wind vane occupied a respective orientation. Discriminators may be provided so that in the event of two cells being simultaneously illuminated, only the pulses from the cell having the smallest resistance are recorded.
