Abstract

1,191,867. Photo-electric measurement of dimensions. ALLM€NNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Aug. 11, 1967 [Aug. 12, 1966], No.36970/67. Heading G1A. To measure the width of an object, which may be hot, a photo-cell scans the object by means of a rotating mirror or alternatively a rotating slotted drum having the photo-cell on its central axis of rotation, the axis of rotation of the mirror or drum both passing through the focal point and being normal or close to normal to the optical axis of a lens or mirror collecting radiation from the object, whereby the object may move towards or away from the collecting lens or mirror without effecting the measurement. In one arrangement Fig. 1 a photo-cell 11, has, by means of a rotating plane mirror 14, placed at the focal point of mirror 15, a field of view along path 16 which scans the object 17 but remains parallel to the optical axis of the system. In another arrangement Fig. 6 a photo-cell 24 is positioned on the axis of a drum 23 which has a slot 25. In there arrangements the lens 26 and mirror 15 may be inter-changed. The output of the photo-cell opens a gate to pass a train timing pulses to a counter for the time the photo-cell scans the object, the reading of the counter thereby indicating the width of the object.
