In a wired broadcasting system pertaining to two colour television transmissions, there is applied to each of two respective conductive networks a modulated carrier wave brightness information component and a modulated carrier wave colour information component, the frequencies of the carrier waves differing from each other by a frequency of approximately (N + ¥)P where N is any integer and P is the line scanning frequency. The frequency of the carrier wave of the brightness information component which pertains to one transmission has a frequency [Œ2 c.p.s. of nominal] of and the frequency of the carrier wave of the brightness information component which pertains to the other transmission has a frequency [Œ2 c.p.s. of nominall of where N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>11</SP>, M and M<SP>1</SP> are any integers and V is the frame scanning frequency of the transmission concerned. Alternatively the frequency of the carrier wave of the brightness component which pertains to one transmission has a frequency [Œ25 c.p.s. of nominal] of and the frequency of the carrier wave of the brightness information component which pertains to the other transmission has a frequency [Œ25 c.p.s. of nominal] of where N<SP>1</SP> and N<SP>11</SP> are any integers. Beats which arise due to second order distortions and to stray signal coupling from one transmission path to the other take the form of a relatively unobtrusive dot pattern. The system is for use with 625 line P.A.L. transmissions.
