Abstract
1,166,331. Filtering and removing air bubbles from colloidal solutions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 19 Jan., 1967 [21 Jan., 1966], No. 2886/67. Headings B1D and B1M. Colloidal solutions, such as photographic emulsions and barium sulphate/gelatin solution, are pumped through a filter with aperture size 17 to 100 microns and simultaneously subjected to vibrations at 40 Kc/s, whereby filtering is assisted and occluded air bubbles dissolved or forced to the surface. Hollow cylindrical filter elements (Fig. 1 not shown), in individual housings 1, are located in a heated water bath 10, to the wall of which ultrasonic transducers 13 are attached, the housings being located with their near walls at antinodes. Each housing has an air vent valve 5 which is opened during filling, filtering being outwards under pressure.
