Abstract

1,165,783. Liquid level detectors. ROSEMOUNT ENG. CO. Ltd. 16 April, 1968 [20 April, 1967], No. 18248/67. Heading G4H. A liquid level detector includes a plurality of sensors 11 positioned in the liquid, the outputs from which are converted to coded signals (preferably binary) on leads 13 which enable gates 14, 15, 16 . . . to which are fed non- coincident pulses at a rate in accordance with the weight of the coded signal 13 fed to that gate, the pulses being counted in a counter 41. In the embodiment described, an oscillator 20 supplies pulses to a binary divider chain 21, 22, 23 . . . each connected to an AND gate 14, 15, 16 . . . the parallel binary coded signals 13 being derived from a detector unit 12 connected to the sensors 11 which is preferably as in Specification 1,110,175, the outputs of the AND gates are fed via an OR gate 30 to the counter 41 which is preferably gated by a further counter pulsed by oscillator 20. The count may be displayed, recorded or punched on magnetic tape or transmitted by radio link to a remote point. The mains supply may be used in place of the oscillator.
