Abstract
1,165,444. Aerials. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON - HOTCHKISS BRANDT. 27 April, 1967 [28 April, 1966], No. 19551/67. Heading H4A. A transmitting aerial A is protected by a radome R which comprises a plurality of mutually parallel conductive elements C to compensate for reflections from its surfaces. The elements C form flat curves around the aerial which are parallel to the electric field vector produced by said aerial, and which are separated from one another by a distance substantially equal to a half-wavelength at the central useful frequency of the aerial. As described, the aerial A is made up of stacked panels of horizontal dipoles D arranged in square formation for omnidirectional radiation, and the radome R is a circular cylinder of fibreglass. The elements C are circular cross-section horizontal wire rings fixed to the inner surface of the radome R. Alternatively, the elements C may be fixed on the external surface of the radome, or may be embedded therein Fig. 4 (not shown). In other arrangements the elements C each consist of two wires paralleled and joined together, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), or of rectangular cross-section metallic bands, Figs. 5, 6, 7 (not shown).
