Abstract

1,144,451. Aerials. FUBA, ANTENNENWERKE, HANS KOLBE & CO. 27 June, 1966 [10 Dec., 1965; 25 March, 1966], No. 28783/68. Heading H4A. A directional aerial comprises a plurality of director assemblies, disposed in front of an active element 1, each having two conductive members 4, 5 mounted on, and separated by, an insulating bar 6. As described, there are fixed on a carrier tube 2 in order, a wire-mesh reflector plate 3, an active element 1, consisting of a full wave dipole with surface extension plates, an auxiliary director 7, and five director assemblies. The conductive members 4, 5 are made from wire in the form of U-shaped hoops and may be moulded in the insulators 6. The length from the centre of each conductive member to either tip is equivalent to a halfwavelength. In a modification (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) a moulded insulating member (13) is used in each director assembly to carry two stamped metal conductive members (11), (12) which are generally V-shaped and are provided with reinforcing ribs (10) and with cut out projecting tongues (14) for engagement with the moulded member (13). An active member (8) comprises two U-shaped hoops, and it is fitted below the carrier tube (2) the director assemblies being above. A wire-mesh reflector (9) and an auxiliary director (15) are also provided. Other kinds of active systems, such as an array of dipoles, an electromagnetic horn, or a helical aerial, may be used in conjunction with the directors described.
