A slide projector is housed in base 1 whose lid 20 hinges back to permit the erection of a viewing screen 5 on pivoting, collapsible struts 6, 8 and 12, the mirror 4 directing the projection beam on to the screen, and all parts of the base being spaced from the plane defined by the screen. Plate 17 keeps stray light from the screen and may replace struts 6 when clip 7 permits its disengagement from strut 8 when the screen is to be folded into the base 1. Direct projection on an external screen through an opening in the base is possible when mirror 4 is removed or hinged back, the position of lens 3 then being re-adjusted. In an embodiment, locating clips accurately position member 12 on erection of the screen.
