Abstract

1,164,792. Temperature alarms. MUIRHEAD Ltd. 13 Jan., 1967 [10 Feb., 1966], No. 5943/66. Heading G4N. A temperature sensing circuit comprises the series arrangement of a temperature-sensitive resistor T and a temperature-insensitive resistor R5 across the output of a pulse generator, the junction between the resistors being connected to the emitter of a unijunction transistor Uj. The mark/space ratio of pulses (preferably from a multivibrator Trl, Tr2) is such that the pulses cause negligible heating of the thermistor T. At temperatures such that thermistor T has low resistance, capacitor C3 does not charge sufficiently to trigger the unijunction transistor Uj, but a sufficiently large change in temperature will cause sufficient increase in the resistance of thermistor T to trigger unijunction transistor Uj so as to trigger a monostable multivibrator comprising transistors Tr3, Tr4, the parameters of which being such that lamp L will flash. In Fig. 2 (not shown) transistors Tr3, Tr4 are replaced by a super-alpha pair of transistors so as to provide a similar performance.
