Abstract

1,164,286. Coiling strip. A. J. WOODIN. 24 Dec., 1965, No. 46722/65. Heading B3E. [Also in Division H1] A cylindrical magnetic core consists of individual magnetic steel sheets coiled together such that the longitudinal edges of the sheets are parallel to the core axis and are staggered in relation to those in adjacent turns of the core, the grains of the sheets being parallel to the core axis. The sheets may be soldered or welded together at their longitudinal edges to assist coiling and may be arranged so as to provide axial cooling ducts between series of turns. The sheets may be of arbitrary width or cut from strip. The core may be secured with clamps or shrinkrings, then annealed and the clamps replaced with insulating reinforcing members (not detailed). Apparatus for coiling the sheets consists of a continuous, driven belt (1) (Fig. 3, not shown) co-operating with a roller (3), the sheets being successively fed between the belt and roller to be wound on the latter.
