Abstract
1,164,157. Automatic control of speed. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS - G. m. b. H. Sept. 23, 1966 [Sept. 24, 1965], No.42571/66. Heading G3R. The speed of a steam turbine 2, e. g. driving an alternator, is retroactively controlled by a fast acting analogue loop and a parallel, slow acting, digital loop. Pulse signals from three detectors 3, 4, 5 are compared at 9 and warning given if in disagreement; digital pulses obtained by a comparison of pairs are supplied to a digital/analogue converter 10 for comparison at 11 with a reference 12, and to a device 13 where comparison is made in digital form, the result being converted to analogue and added at 15 to the amplified output of 11. The composite signal is limited if necessary at 16 by any of a variety of values such as steam pressure and is further combine at 17 with a signal derived from the power output of the alternator. The control signal is then passed through a non-linear network 19 which compensates for non-linearity in the electro-hydraulic control 20 of the steam valve. If the turbine has a re-heat stage this is also controlled by similar devices 21-23, 24 being a closing signal used during starting.
