Abstract

1,163,651. Printing-surfaces. G. RITZERFELD. 24 Jan., 1967 [27 Jan., 1966], No. 3424/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Divisions C3, C5 and D2] A transfer sheet which may be used to form a hectographic printing master comprises a first layer of duplicating dye and binder of wax or fat, and a second layer, superposed on the first and containing carbon black or graphite. In the examples, the first layer comprises carnauba wax, beeswax, petroleum jelly, wool fat, mineral oil and a dye, the second layer comprises: (Example I) paraffin wax, ozocerite and carbon black, (Example II) candelilla wax, paraffin wax and carbon black; and (Example III) a dispersion comprising styrene, acrylonitrile, acrylic acid, potassium persulphate, an anionic emulsifier and carbon black, and a solution of methylcellulose in water. When so many copies have been run off that the image on the master is nearly exhausted, a second transfer sheet with a coating containing hectographic dye is disposed behind the master and the two exposed to infra-red radiation or a highfrequency electric field. The carbon black or graphite becomes heated, and causes local transfer to restore the master sheet. Such restoration can be repeated.
