Abstract

1,163,398. Latches. NATIONAL LOCK CO. 25 March, 1968 [21 Sept., 1967], No. 14320/68. Heading E2A. A latch comprises an adjustable pivotable hook bolt 66 having two elongated slots 74, 75 through which passes respectively a first pin 54 and a control pin 57, the pin 54 passes also through inclined slots 64 in a pair of parallel arms 61 and slots 53 in a pair of parallel plates 51 and the control pin passes through upwardly extending slots 55 in plates 51. The reduced ends of a hub 41 are supported rotatably in apertures 52 in the plates and in the side wall of a housing and cover and a projection 46 on each side of an end of an arm on the hub extends into an opening 62 in each arm 61. The hub is rotatable by a handle to raise the arms 61 which are constrained by the pin 54 in inclined slot 64 to move forwardly together with the bolt and thereby disengaging the control pin 57 from a recess 56 in the slot 55, the bolt is then pivotable about pin 54 to unlatching position. The position of the bolt is adjustable by slackening a screw 89 engaged in a pivoting adjusting member 79 allowing it to be raised in a slot in the front plate of the housing thereby pivoting the member 79 and disengaging serrated edge 84 on the member from a serrated edge 59 on the upper edge of the plates, the plates can then be pivoted and the bolt is movable to an adjusted position. The member 79 is then pivoted downwardly and secured by the screw with the serrated edges on the member and plates engaging.
