Abstract
1,114,028. Latches. VON DUPRIN Inc. 31 March, 1967, No. 14763/67. Heading E2A. A mortice type latch assembly comprises a latch case 10, a cover plate 13, a face plate 14 formed with an opening 17 therethrough, a latch bolt 18, retractor means 22 for the latch bolt 18, a first cam 25 movable about a fixed axis and cooperable with the retractor 22 to actuate the same, abutment means in the form of a socket 35 on the cam 25, a second cam 30 movable about the same fixed axis to also actuate the retractor, albutment means 36 on the second cam 30, detent means 37 movable relative to the cams and engageable alternatively with the abutment means of the respective cams to restrain the engaged cam against movement, means 50, 55 accessible through the face plate 14 for manually shifting the detent means into engagement alternatively with either of the abutment means, and means 74, 75, 76 accessible from outside the latch case and movable selectively into position to block engagement of the detent means 37 with one or the other of the abutment means 35, 36. As shown, the cams 25, 30 are engageable with spindles 29, 34 carrying handles (not shown) by means of which the latch may be operated at apposite sides of a door. The detent means 37 comprises a pair of arms 39, 44 pivotally mounted on a common pin 38, the arms being connected through pivots 53, 57 respectively, to the means 50, 55, which are in the form of manually operable plungers, by means of which one or the other of the arms is caused to block rotation of a respective cam 25 or 30. A spring 66 cooperates with one of a series of catches 58-60 and 61-63 respectively on the arms in accordance with the positions of the arms relative to the cams. The means 71-76 comprises an arm 71 pivoted on the pin 38 and engageable by a screw passing through a slat 76 in the plate 13 whereby the arm 71 may be selectively adjusted angularly about its pivot to block movemert of one or the other of the plungers 50, 55 and thus prevent operation of the latch by one or the other of the door handles.
