1,163,248. Annular sausage casing. KALLE A.G. 23 April, 1968 [25 April, 1967], No. 19100/68. Heading A2B. An annular sausage casing comprises a seamless, thin walled, longitudinally and laterally stretched flexible tube of a plastics material, for example of polyethylene terephthalate, or mixed polymers of 85-95 wt. per cent vinylidene chloride and 5-15 wt. per cent vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, acrylic acid, or esters of acrylic acid, which tube has been shortened on the inner side of the ring by heating, and exhibits on the outside of the ring in the longitudinal direction of the flexible tube a total shrinkage capacity of at least 30 per cent, and at 90‹C. a shrinkage stress of at least 200g/mm<SP>2</SP> in each of the longitudinal and transverse directions of the flexible tube. The heating may be effected by inflating the biaxially stretched tube and coiling it either on a heated former or on a cold former which is then heated; whereby the necessary shrinkage occurs. Alternatively the heating may be effected by blowing hot air or steam, or spraying hot liquid, onto one side of the inflated tube.
