Abstract

1,162,859. Rolling. DEMAG A.G. 13 Feb., 1967 [29 April, 1966], No. 6850/67. Heading B3M. A rolling mill plant for the production of wire includes a loop former 3 positioned between the last stand 2 of a finishing train and cooling sections 5-9, the loop former and pairs of drive rollers 4 and 10 controlling the tension in the wire so that it is constant during winding. In operation, the leading end of the wire operates a photo-electric cell positioned immediately after the rollers 4 to speed up the stand and to form a loop at 3. Further cells, located between the sections 5-9 and in front of a horizontal winding drum 14, serve to successively switch on water supplies to the sections, and to control winding of the wire. After the wire is initially wound on the drum from the loop, the drive rollers are disengaged and the rollers 4, 10 act as a brake to regulate the wire tension. The loop former 3 may be used to control the rolling speed and/or the rollers 4 and 10, according to the size of the loop. To wind the wire on the drum either a reciprocating guide tube 24 is used or a drum which is slid axially on a carriage 21.
