Abstract

1,162,727. Treating soil. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 6 March, 1968 [16 March, 1967], No. 10962/68. Heading C1B. Soil is treated with an N-phenyl or N-pyridyl amic acid or salt as anti-nitrification agent. The phenyl or pyridyl group may be mono to penta substituted by one or more of halogen, nitro, amino, methyl, or trichloromethyl. The salt may be of ammonium, sodium potassium, magnesium, calcium, copper, zinc, iron, or aluminium. The amic acid may be oxamic, malonamic, succinamic, maleamic, fumaramic, glutaramic, adipamic, or phthalamic acid. The agent may be applied dissolved in water or an organic solvent or in admixture with a solid carrier. It may be applied together with or separately from an N-fertilizer. Fertilizer compositions may be prepared by (a) prilling urea in presence of agent and optionally granulating with ammonium phosphate and potassium chloride; (b) granulating a mixture of urea, ammonium phosphate and potassium chloride in presence of a solution of agent; (c) spraying an ammonium sulphate/phosphate mixture with a solution of the agent, and (d) forming urea-form in presence of agent.
