Abstract

116,259. Poppink, J. H., and Bischoff, J. C. April 27, 1917, [Convention date]. Spray burners.-In a burner adapted for welding and cutting metal, liquid fuel supplied by a pipe b is sprayed by an oxygen jet c into a burner tube made in two parts d, f separated by an intermediate part e of insulating material, atmospheric air being admitted through an inlet 1. The heating of the mixture in the burner tube is facilitated by providing an enlargement at the exit end of the box of the burner tube or a constriction i near the exit end and by covering the inner wall of the burner tube wholly or in part with wire gauze k. The outer wall of the burner tube is provided with grooves g to increase its heat-radiating surface. For cutting metal, a separate oxygen jet may be provided in or near the burner mouth.
