Abstract
1,161,906. Coating catalyst. W. R. GRACE & CO. 16 Aug., 1966 [16 Aug., 1965; 20 Oct., 1965], No. 36685/66. Heading B1E. (Also in Division CS] A silica-magnesia-fluorine cracking catalyst is prepared by a process comprising gelling a sodium silicate solution to give a silica gel, adding an aqueous slurry of magnesia to the gel, adding a water-soluble fluorine-containing compound to the silica-magnesia slurry, ageing the resulting composite for at least one hour at a temperature in the range 160 to 180‹F., and washing and drying the aged composite. The final product may contain from 17% to 48% magnesia and 0.5% to 5% fluorine. The silica gel may be adjusted to pH 2.0 to 8.0 and aged before adding the magnesia slurry. Strong mineral acid may be added to the magnesia slurry or to the silica magnesia slurry. The silica magnesia slurry may be aged before addition of the fluorine compound. The ageing of the silica magnesia fluoride slurry is .preferably carried out on the unwashed spray dried product.
